Being a bit of a P.G. Wodehouse fan, I sat down to watch this with some trepidation. I didn't think Hollywood would be able to do Wodehouse justice. But it wasn't too bad at all.
The plot, which is pretty complicated by the standard of most films today, survives more-or-less intact. The 1930s setting is highly stylised, and while very nice to look at, doesn't always work as it should.
Sam Rockwell is excellent in the lead role and pulls off some very sharp dialogue. I can't help seeing him as Zaphod Beeblebrox now, though.
My only complaint is that some of the dialogue and situations have been "modernised" a bit too much. I'd like to think that "Plum" didn't even know the word "crap" let alone wrote it down.
All told, though, a good effort to bring the work of the 20th Century's greatest humourist to the screen.
